Big Day #1: Egg Retrieval

Today was the day. After two+ weeks of Lupron shot in my stomach, 9 days of menopur shots in my rear and one HCG it the same spot, the eggs were there and waiting.

We got to the doctor's office at about 8:45 am. The appointment was at 9 am but I was not ushered into the procedure room until 10 am. Justin was not allowed to join me. He was told they would call him back in 45 minutes. I was told to undress my bottoms and wait on the table. The nurse came in to adjust me on the table and then she started the IV. The vein on the top of my left hand collapsed, so she moved onto where they usually take my blood in my right arm. That one worked just fine. The drugs took effect very quickly and I was out. I did not realize I would be completely out. I vaguely remember being walked to a recovery room. When I woke up a little, Justin was there with me. I don't remember getting dressed but I was. I remember being walked to the car, Justin stopping to pick up the progesterone shots, and finally getting home and sleeping for several hours.

The doctor was able to retrieve 8 eggs. Apparently I cried then laughed, then cried then laughed while I was under--maybe a stress release while my guard was down. The procedure took longer than anticipated, probably because I kept laughing and crying--I was a difficult patient. They also did an extra IV in my wrist. It is weird to have two lost hours in one's life. I was hoping for more eggs retrieved, but I guess this is an average number from what I have read. The Progesterone shots start tonight. Wish me luck on those--these I have heard are not pleasant.
